S M BERRY BUILDING CONTRACTORS
Unfortunately it is all too common to hear of people suffering bad experiences from 'cowboy' builders or cheap and shoddy workmanship when having building work undertaken. As a consequence it is a worry for those considering a new building project and who do not know a reputable builder. After all, a new extension or building project is probably one of the largest and most important investments that one can make after the house itself, and poor workmanship and faults due to a lack of professionalism can be costly to rectify, so the choice of builder to carry out the work is naturally a matter of concern. It is important to get it right.
We were in this position in the spring of 2011, so after looking around for potential builders I approached a shortlist of five for an estimate for a two-storey extension. One of these was S. M. Berry Building Contractors. Although not the cheapest, Scott Berry's quote was competitive, but most importantly he ticked all the right boxes when he called. He was friendly and polite, showed an interest in what we planned (rather than treating it as just another job), he made pertinent comments and suggestions (which demonstrated a professionalism and sound understanding of what we wanted to achieve), and happily called again to discuss some additions and potential alterations to our plans. I then visited three previous similar building projects he had undertaken as a final check, just to be sure, and feeling perfectly satisfied, we chose Scott Berry and his team to undertake the work. It was the best decision we could have made.
I can only confirm what has already been said in earlier letters of commendation. From day one Scott and his team of two sons - Elliot and Jed - impressed us with their politeness, helpfulness and friendly approach, and throughout the project were never intrusive. In fact, they were a pleasure to have around (important when the builders spend three months or so in and around the house). They were always punctual in the morning and tidied up when they left, during which time they approached each task with care, diligence and professionalism. Scott even helpfully accommodated some additional requirements from us during the building work, and although these must have disrupted his planned schedule he accepted them with unruffled cheerfulness. On top of that we felt absolutely confident of the trustworthiness of Scott and his sons, and were entirely comfortable with them having total access to the house when we were out - another important attribute.
After a little more than three months, and within schedule, the project was complete and we are delighted with the finished work. Building work is always disruptive but Scott, Elliot and Jed did their best to minimise this, and although we are pleased to get back to normal we were sorry to see them go as they had become like part of the family.
We would be very happy to be contacted by email or to speak to anyone considering Scott Berry for their building work, or for anyone to view the work he has done (please contact Scott for our contact details). And if we decide to undertake further building work at some future point we will have no worry or doubt about who we will ask to do the work. It will be Scott and his team.
